- It’s Close Proximity to Other Italian Cities
People always say that the Amalfi Coast is like getting several vacations in one. Not only can you begin (or end) the trip in Naples, but also each town along the coast is unlike the other. Naples is the more urban epicenter that reminds you of Paris with more of a NYC type hustle and bustle. Sorrento is great for shopping and nightlife because stores close later than usual and people are out having a good time at all times of night. Capri, most easily accessible from Sorrento, has a lively main strip waiting for you once you get off of the ferry or boat you rode in on. Every shop owner wants you to pop in and waiters are trying to get you to come to their restaurant for a meal. The toughest decision of the day should be whether you want a bottle of red or white wine with lunch. Positano, with its colorful homes nestled in the nooks of the mountainside, has markets and beaches waiting for you once you actually reach the bottom of the mountain. Every town is different with a unique vibe and scenery, and when you get tired of the Coast, make your way to another Italian city such as Rome or Tuscany which are just hours away!
- Transportation is a Breeze
Some travelers refuse to visit a country and not rent a car to get around. Others are set against it because not all roads are like home and not everyone drives like the lovely people in your city. While it may be more convenient to have your own transportation, and tempting to rent a moped, the public transportation along the Amalfi Coast is not only easily accessible, but it’s cheap! Transportation was usually less than 5 euros round trip and I never had to worry about parking or filling up a gas tank.
- Local Food & Libations Never Hurt Anybody
Seafood spaghetti is a must have when visiting along the Amalfi Coast. There is nothing like clams, mussels, calamari and more being fished from the sea you’re dining next to, and placed on a bed of perfectly prepared al dente pasta. A delicious bottle of wine, made from grapes grown in the town you’re in or the next town over, will make the meal complete. Talk about buying local, and let’s not forget freshly prepared pizza from the birthplace of pizza, Naples. Food and drinks don’t get any better than this. Buon appetito, and ciao!
