If you’re anything like me, you probably love traveling, but absolutely hate flying. No matter the destination, long-haul flights are rarely ever fun and are often hard to look forward to. Despite how dreadful “forever” flights can be, there are a few things that can make your flight all the more bearable. Here are a few tips for surviving “forever” flights:

  1. If you’ll be flying for 10+ hours, try to avoid excessive hours of sleep the night before (a power nap will suffice). If you’re tired enough, you’ll be able to sleep through most of—if not the entire—flight, making the hours go by extremely quickly.
  2. If sleeping while flying isn’t really your thing, make sure your phone, laptop, tablet and portable chargers are all fully charged. Unfortunately, long-haul flights don’t always guarantee the availability of outlets. If you won’t be able to charge your devices on the plane, you’d want to make sure they’re already fully charged and ready for usage.
  3. Load your favorite movies, television series and playlists. Sure, longer flights usually mean airplanes with mini television screens placed on the back of each seat, but there’s no guarantee that any of the movie, television or music selections will be of interest to you. Long flights are the perfect time for you to catch up on that show you’ve been waiting to finish or listen to the new album you’ve been dying to hear!
  4. Hydrate! Drinking lots of water will prevent your muscles from becoming too stiff, thus making you less susceptible to cramping. Since you’ll be confined to a seat for so many hours, whether you’re sleeping or watching TV, you’ll at least want to be comfortable.
  5. Upgrade! Whether you upgrade to Premium Economy or Business Class, it’ll make all the difference. It may be more expensive, but if you have room for it in your budget, it is a recommendation that will be worth it!
  6. Bring your own food and snacks because… well, we all know how flight food can taste.
